The planking of a wooden balcony
projects from a shelf above representations of mythical creatures. As at other cliff
tomb sites on the eastern flanks of the Central Cordillera, rock art abounds. Some
of the rock art antedates the construction of the chullpas (plastered and painted
masonry tombs) and was covered by them... Aside from the damage inflicted by the huaqueros,
the mummies are extremely well-preserved--eloquent testimony to the skill of their
pre-Columbian embalmers. |
